Hole 7 at The Mines Golf

Overview

Hole 7 is among the most photogenic and formidable Par 3s on the course. Stretching 166 metres from the back tee, this hole is a pure test of nerve and execution. Framed by a sweeping lake that dominates the right side, this is not a place for half-hearted swings. While the yardage may not intimidate on paper, the visual drama of water, wind, and the tight green complex makes this one of the most memorable tee shots at The Mines Golf.

The Tee Shot

From an elevated tee, players are presented with a direct carry over water to a slender, elongated green that clings to the lakeside contour. The line to the flag is uncompromising; there is no bailout short, and anything leaking right is lost to the lake. The ideal tee shot must carry all the way to the putting surface with laser accuracy.

Golfers may be tempted to aim left toward the wider neck of the green, but that too introduces complexity: a left-side miss means contending with a slopey chip back toward the water with little room to stop the ball.

📝 Pro Tip: Choose your club based on carry yardage; there’s no room for roll-up. Factor in the breeze off the lake, which can swirl deceptively at this exposed corner of the course.

The Approach (If Needed)

While most players will be putting from the tee, those who bail left or come up short in the rough will face delicate chips that run slightly downhill toward a green that feels suspended above the lake. A bump-and-run shot is rarely the play here; lofted, soft landings with plenty of control are essential.

📝 Pro Tip: If your ball finds the left collar or fringe, use a hybrid or a putter depending on the lie; the key is distance control, not spin.

The Green

The putting surface is shaped like a teardrop, tilted gently toward the front. Pins tucked on the right half of the green flirt with the water’s edge, while back-left positions offer a safer, but no less demanding challenge.

The green itself is modest in size, but the pressure of the preceding shot means every putt feels weighty.

📝 Pro Tip: The back portion of the green runs flatter, but the front breaks more than it appears. Trust your read and commit to pace.

Visual Landmarks

From this tee, players enjoy one of the course’s most expansive lake views; water wraps the entire right side of the hole from tee to green. On the far side, tropical palms and rows of tidy yellow hedges lend a resort-style elegance. The skyline beyond adds a cinematic backdrop.

Midway through the hole, the curve of the fairway hugs the lake like a painter’s brushstroke, and at the green, the panorama extends down to the next stretch of holes, linking the narrative of the front nine.

Summary

Hole 7 is The Mines Golf's showpiece Par 3, deceptively simple in concept, yet utterly absorbing in execution. It asks only one thing: a single, well-struck shot. But in that one shot lies everything—judgement, commitment, and calm under pressure. A par here isn’t just a score, it’s a statement.
