Overview
Hole 4 at The Mines Resort & Golf Club may not be the longest Par 4 on the course, but it demands respect from tee to green. At 368 metres from the back tee, this hole winds between natural wetlands and gentle elevation changes, testing accuracy, control, and composure. With water in play on both sides and a subtly contoured green, it challenges players to remain precise throughout.
The Tee Shot
From the tee box, players are presented with an elevated vantage point overlooking a rolling fairway bordered by danger on the right. The entire right side is protected by a wetland hazard, visually and strategically intimidating.
A successful tee shot must be long enough to clear the corner yet straight enough to avoid the right-side water. The fairway slopes slightly left to right, nudging balls toward the hazard if struck with a fade.
📝 Pro Tip: Favour a slight draw or a centre-left line off the tee. This keeps the ball in the ideal landing zone and opens up your angle to the green.
The Approach
Once safely in the fairway, players face a mid to short iron approach to a raised green that is framed by wetlands on the left. The entrance to the green is slightly narrowed by gentle mounding, and anything left brings the hazard into immediate play.
The green sits forward visually, making it hard to judge depth, especially when the pin is back. Wind exposure also tends to pick up as players leave the tree-lined tee and mid-fairway.
📝 Pro Tip: Take one more club than you think if the pin is back. Missing long right is safer than short left.
The Green
The green is 28 metres deep and 24 metres wide, with gentle but deceptive contours. Balls landing on the wrong tier can leave long, curling putts with tricky speed. Pin placements on the back left are the most challenging, perched closest to the hazard.
Front pins are approachable with spin.
Back-right locations reward controlled approaches with birdie opportunities.
📝 Pro Tip: Uphill putts are far preferable; landing below the hole gives you the best chance at a solid two-putt or birdie look.
