Overview
Hole 2 at The Mines Resort & Golf Club is a breathtaking Par 5 stretching 509 metres, flanked by water along the entire left side. The design is both intimidating and rewarding, with a dramatic tee shot that dares you to carry the lake's edge. Precision and strategy are crucial, as the hole offers an opportunity to reach the green in two, if you’re brave enough to take on the challenge.
The Tee Shot
From the elevated tee box, the view is spectacular but undeniably intimidating. The lake hugs the entire left side, and the fairway sweeps gracefully along its edge. The ideal drive is a bold carry over the water, flirting with the edge of the fairway to shorten the distance.
For those who prefer a safer play, the right side of the fairway is more forgiving, albeit at the cost of additional yardage. Long hitters can aim aggressively over the water, reducing the second shot to a reachable distance for an eagle attempt.
📝 Pro Tip: If you’re confident with your driver, take on the water. A well-placed shot will reward you with a clean line to the green. For safer play, aim right and accept the longer approach.
The Approach
If your tee shot is well-placed, the decision becomes clear: go for it in two or lay up strategically. From the middle of the fairway, the green is visible, tucked tightly against the lake. The left side is guarded by a sharp drop-off to the water, while the right side is flanked by a series of pot bunkers.
The fairway opens slightly approaching the green, but any approach shot pulled left risks finding the water. Precision is key here, especially for those attempting to reach the green in two. The landing area near the green is narrow, demanding both distance and accuracy.
📝 Pro Tip: If you’re going for it in two, aim slightly right of the pin. This reduces the risk of the lake while keeping you in position for an up-and-down if you miss the green.
The Green
The green at Hole 2 is long and slightly elevated, with a gentle slope that breaks towards the water. Its position along the lake's edge adds a dramatic flair to every putt, especially when the pin is set closer to the water.
Front pin positions are more accessible but bring the lake into play.
Back pin positions require careful navigation past the guarding bunkers.
Green Size: Approximately 21 metres wide and 25 metres deep, offering generous room for well-placed shots.
📝 Pro Tip: Approach shots that land centre-left are ideal, providing a safer path for two-putts or a birdie opportunity.
Visual Landmarks
This hole is a visual masterpiece. As you step up to the tee, the expansive lake mirrors the skyline, with Palace of the Golden Horses and the grand architecture of Mines Waterfront City painting the horizon. The entire left side of the hole is beautifully framed by palm trees and water, making it one of the most iconic holes on the course.
Summary
Hole 2 at The Mines Golf Course is a dramatic test of courage and skill. Its strategic tee shot, risk-reward approach, and stunning backdrop make it a favourite for those seeking both challenge and beauty. Play it safe and enjoy the view, or take on the water and aim for glory.
