Hole 6 at The Mines Golf

Overview

Hole 6 is a stunning short Par 4 with panoramic views of the lake and neighbouring fairways; a welcome moment of scenic pause in the round. But don’t let the postcard setting fool you. At just 256 metres, this is the shortest Par 4 on the course, but also one of the most thought-provoking. This hole rewards tactical decision-making off the tee, asking you to weigh boldness against restraint.

The Tee Shot

From the tee, you stand above a sweeping vista of water, sand, and tightly mown turf. The direct line to the green, tempting for the aggressive player, requires a carry of over 200 metres across water onto a narrow landing zone framed by bunkers and mounds. The line is inviting, but the margin for error is razor-thin.

For those choosing discretion over valour, the smarter play is to lay up to the right, avoiding the water entirely. This route takes you along a more forgiving stretch of fairway but leaves a slightly longer and more awkward angle into the green.

📝 Pro Tip: If you're going for the green, commit fully. Half-swings and hesitation will almost always result in a splash. If you're laying up, favour the centre-left fairway for a better look on the approach.

The Approach

Aggressive tee shots that find the front apron can set up chip-and-putt birdie opportunities. But if you laid up, your second shot will be from 80–100 metres with a wedge in hand to a small, slightly elevated green.

The approach must be precise, anything short risks the water, and too much spin on a back-pin target can draw the ball off the putting surface.

📝 Pro Tip: Avoid getting too cute with the pin. Playing to the fat part of the green will often yield a better result, especially in breezy conditions.

The Green

Measuring 12 metres wide by 27 metres deep, this green is small and subtly contoured. A lone bunker left guards aggressive lines while water awaits just off the right edge.

  • Front-right pins tempt risk-reward lovers but bring the lake squarely into play.

  • Back-left placements are safer but demand perfect distance control.

📝 Pro Tip: Read the surrounding slopes carefully; this green has soft breaks that are easy to misjudge at a glance.

Visual Landmarks

This hole offers one of the most photogenic tee views on the entire property. The lake stretches out across the entire left side, wrapping behind the green and reflecting the tree line like a mirror.

To the right, a red timber bridge and layers of palms complete the framing. The iconic “MINES” floral hedge visible from the fairway reminds players they’re in a storied golfing destination.

Summary

Hole 6 epitomises risk vs. reward design. It’s short, yes, but every yard is packed with consequence. Brave the water and you might walk off with an eagle putt. Play it safe and you’ll need to earn your birdie with short-game finesse. Either way, it’s a thrilling hole that invites players to pause, plot, and play with purpose.
