Hole 11 at The Mines Golf

Overview

Hole 11 at The Mines presents one of the most visually arresting tee shots on the course. This Par 3, playing at 155 metres from the tips, demands a clean strike over a dramatic ravine to a narrow green perched against a lush jungle backdrop. It’s a hole that toys with perception, appearing more daunting than it truly is, but nonetheless tests a golfer’s poise and club selection.

The Tee Shot

From an elevated tee, players are greeted with a drop in terrain so pronounced it could rattle even the steadiest swing. The deep ravine below is a psychological hurdle more than a tactical one, there is ample landing room short of the green, and a forgiving approach area left. But the trouble looms to the right, where the slope falls away into oblivion and the Out of Bounds line awaits any miscalculation.

📝 Pro Tip: Club selection is key. Play one club less to account for the elevation drop, and favour the centre or left side of the green. Even a slight miss left still leaves a manageable up-and-down.

The Approach

Most tee shots that don’t hold the green will trickle to the short apron or left-hand bailout area, offering a straightforward chip to a relatively receptive putting surface. But those erring right will either find the solitary bunker or worse, fall into the collection area below with no line back.

📝 Pro Tip: If you’re chipping from the left, be mindful of pin placement. Short-sided flags demand precision; otherwise, opt to run it up the centre spine.

The Green

Measuring 16 metres across and 24 metres deep, the green here is shaped like a stretched teardrop. Subtle slopes run from the back towards the front and slightly left, rewarding putts that come from below the hole. When the pin is tucked near the back-right quadrant, it becomes a challenge even for experienced short-game players.

📝 Pro Tip: Stay below the hole whenever possible. The green is receptive but slippery downhill, especially when firmed up under sunny skies.

Visual Landmarks

This hole is pure jungle theatre. Lush tropical foliage wraps around the ravine, creating a natural amphitheatre that isolates the green and heightens the drama. From the tee, a single white bunker frames the green against a rich backdrop of trees and hill slope, while to the left, seasonal blooms add a pop of colour to the scene. The serenity is deceptive—the real challenge lies in conquering the mental picture.

Summary

Hole 11 is a visual stunner with a bite. It’s a short Par 3 that doesn’t require brute strength, but demands thoughtful execution. Success here is measured not just by where your ball lands, but by how calmly you commit to the shot. It’s a hole that asks you to look beyond the ravine and trust your swing.
