In oder to provide the best playing conditions for our members and their guests, the following programmes will be carried out on the golf course between July and September 2008.
Vertical cutting on tee boxes and fairways The reasons for vertical cutting are:
1. To remove excessive accumulation of thatch layer (a dense layer of old stems and roots develop underneath the grass that causes a spongy and matted condition).
2. To reduce the potential for mower scalping, disease development and localized dry spot formation.
3. To provide a firm and better playing surface.
4. To improve the subsurface drainage system on all fairways, which will optimise playing conditions and reduce soggy areas.
5. Returfing on rough areas where bare patches have developed under the trees.
6. Beautification of the golf course by planting more flowering shrubs at strategic locations.
The club will no longer offer female caddie service to members with effect from August 2008.
Freak weather conditions are occurring around the globe and Malaysia is no exception albeit in a milder form.
The club was recently hit by strong storms which has resulted in some trees being uprooted, split or large branches being broken at some areas of the golf course.
Wind has also damaged some of the lighter structures on the course, leaving them mangled, as witnessed in the accompanying photos.
Thanks to our capable grounds staff and club management, the damaged trees and the resulting debris were cleared in a timely fashion, leaving the course looking stunning again.
Pertandingan Golf Muhibbah Istana & Mines
This very special golf event, graced by SPB Yang Dipertuan Agong, took place at the club members, the Royal families and their associates.
The striking orange and blue attire was sponsored by Crestlink, adding a ;professional’ air to the occasion.
A wonderful time was had by all who took part and the competition was heightened as a BMW X5 was up for any taker who could score a Hole-In-One. Unfortunately there were no takers on the day but no one went home without a prize and the strong bond of friendship.
Club Championship 2008
Absence of Defending Champion Opens Possibilities for Others
It’s that time of the year once again when members are invited to take part in the annual Club Championship that will be held on August 9th & 10th 2008.
This year’s event will be interesting to watch as the defending champion, Alif Johan, will be unable to take part, leaving the field wide open for a new champion to step up to the winners circle.
Alif took the 2007 honours with a two day total of 148 over William Houng Lee and Mohd Faiq, both on 152. In that close fought battle, Houng Lee took second place on countback from Mohd Faiq.
Apart from the honour, a wide selection of attractive prizes, which includes branded golf equipment, leather goods and timepieces, will be the reward for the top placed winners.
To participate kindly call Visnu/Amri at 03-8943 2288 to book your place. Those wishing to throw their hat into the ring should register before August 5th.
